5 NIGHTS - 6 DAYS
This 6 Day Tour is foreseen for people with average physical fitness. Experienced paddlers are welcomed as well. Our plan is to have genuine Croatian adventure in Pomalo style. Our aim is to relax and paddle close to the shore following the coastline and exploring hidden bays and beaches.
We’ll spend the nights camping under the stars in secluded bays. We’ll have few hikes and beach breaks. We will explore caves and dive in them, swim in the turquoise colors of the crystal clear sea, snorkel in the Nature Park Zavratnica.
The following itinerary should be seen as an approximate guide only. Our program may change depend on the local weather conditions and preferences of the group.
As it takes some time to organize things and get fresh food for the tour, how it usually is in kayaking world, it will take some time to start. Packing kayak the right way is crucial and we share our food and water load. Do not take any unnecessary things or bulky items. The 20 liter dry bag should be sufficient for your clothing. After packing we plan to paddle to the Town of Rab and underneath its 2000 years old fortification walls. Maybe a coffee break on our way to Kalifront forest... The part of this forest, called Dundovo, was declared in 1949 a natural rarity place for its evergreen Crnika Tree (Helm Oak Tree). There are many emerald bays to stop on our way before we reach the Island of Maman where we’ll set up our tents and have dinner.
After breakfast we’ll paddle to Draga to visit the Old Water Mill.... then paddle to Tunera pier, which was built during the 1760’s for Tuna fishing. We’ll follow the NW coat to reach cape Sorinj where we’ll enjoy in lunch and swim in turquoise sea. We’ll than cross the bay of Lopar to reach and explore its sandy bays and beaches before we set camp for overnight.
On the third day we’ll paddle to the Island of St. Gregory and shortly paddle the coastline before we set off to notorious Island of Goli Otok. Both of the Islands were political prisons but our guides will tell you more about it. We’ll have a short visit to the ruins of the prison and have coffee break. After lunch and sightseeing we’ll paddle back to Grgur Island and explore its NE side, crowned by high cliffs. After reaching the main bay we’ll set up our tents and have dinner.*
*Optional dinner (not included in tour price) in local restaurant owned by our dear friends. They serve calamari, fish and meat dishes. You can also charge your phone as they run on generator. The restaurant is open from late April to mid-September.
We’ll leave the Island and paddle back to Lopar (Rab) sandy beaches ending up a full circumnavigation of Grgur Island. After rest on one of the beaches and lunch we’ll paddle to one of the most interesting places the island has to offer - the Geo-Park.
First on our stop is Medova Buža cave where you can jump from the hole on the ceiling and then dive out trough a big but short underwater tunnel. We’ll also have a chance to stop in two more caves before we reach our camping place. Dinner under the stars and amazing look on Velebit Mountain.
Sunrise over the Velebit Mountain and s smell of freshly made coffee. After breakfast we’ll enjoy in paddling the second half of the Geo-Park. We’ll stop in one of the caves and end up in moonscape Bay of Mag where we’ll enjoy in swim and hike. Optional tour is to paddle to Zavratnica Fiord on the mainland based in Nature Park Velebit (3 Nm one way). There you can snorkel over the WWII shipwreck.
Today we’ll paddle to our finish point in Pudarica Bay but first we’ll stop for a lunch and a last swim. We finish around 2.00 pm and we need additional 1.5 hours to empty our kayaks and load them onto the trailer. We’ll drive you to our base or to your cars.
